Gardena SILENO minimo 500 Robotic Lawn Mower

Gardena SILENO minimo 500 robot lawn mower, grey body with teal wheels

Some lawns are too big to call tiny but nowhere near big enough for a large robot. That is where the Gardena SILENO minimo 500 fits. Gardena rates it for lawns of up to 500 m², and on Gardena’s spec sheet it is the same compact 6,1 kg machine as the minimo 250, rated for twice the area.

It runs inside a boundary wire and you set it up from your phone over Bluetooth®. It suits fairly simple lawns with gentle slopes. If your lawn is just over 250 m², or close to it, the 500 gives you the headroom we like to see.

What the SILENO minimo 500 can do

The minimo 500 is small, but it is not stripped down. It carries Gardena’s main SILENO features:

  • Bluetooth® setup. Enter your lawn size, mowing preferences and start times in the GARDENA Bluetooth® App and it builds a schedule for you.
  • CorridorCut. It mows between boundary wires just 60 cm apart and works its way out of dead ends.
  • SensorControl. It judges how quickly the grass is growing and adjusts how often it mows.
  • Spot cutting. A spiral mowing pattern for hard-to-reach spots, such as under a trampoline or garden furniture.
  • Frost sensor. It pauses the mowing plan near freezing, and you can turn this on or off in the app.
  • Hose-down cleaning. Gardena designed the housing, blades and wheels to be sprayed clean.

Where it differs from the bigger SILENO life is in the extras. The minimo has no display and no alarm, cuts a 16 cm path rather than 22 cm, and tops out at a 45 mm cutting height. On a simple lawn of a few hundred square metres, none of that is a deal breaker.

Is it right for your lawn?

Gardena says the minimo 500 needs up to 12 hours of mowing and charging a day to cover a full 500 m². That is a long day for a small mower, which is why we suggest leaving a gap between your lawn size and its rating. The more room you leave, the shorter its working day.

For slopes, the limits are 25% inside the lawn and 10% along the boundary wire. If you have a steeper lawn, or a long edge running along a bank, the Gardena SILENO life 750 handles up to 35% inside the mowing area. If your lawn is well under 250 m² and simple, the SILENO minimo 250 does the same job on a lighter schedule.

Gardena supplies 150 m of boundary wire in the box. If your perimeter, plus the loops around beds, trees and paving, needs more than that, Gardena sells extra wire in 150 m and 50 m lengths, and we will tell you at the assessment whether you need it.

Finally, remember the app is Bluetooth® only, with a range of about 10 metres. If you want to check on your mower from anywhere, compare all our robotic mowers and ask us about connected models.

Frequently asked questions

Is the SILENO minimo 500 the same mower as the minimo 250?

On paper, yes. Gardena lists the same weight, size, cutting system, cutting width, battery run time and boundary wire for both. The 500 is rated for twice the area, needs more daily running time to cover it, and uses more energy at maximum use.

How many hours a day does the SILENO minimo 500 need to run?

Gardena says up to 12 hours of mowing and charging a day to cover a full 500 m². A smaller lawn needs fewer hours.

Does the SILENO minimo 500 need a boundary wire?

Yes. It works inside a physical boundary wire. Gardena includes 150 m of wire, 150 hooks, 4 connectors and 5 connection clamps in the box, and we lay the wire as part of installation.

How short does the SILENO minimo 500 cut?

The cutting height adjusts from 20 to 45 mm. It cuts a 16 cm path with a single blade disc carrying 3 blades.

What happens if someone picks the mower up?

Lift sensors stop the blades straight away. The mower is also protected by a PIN code, although the minimo does not have an alarm.

Can the SILENO minimo 500 mow in the rain?

Yes. Gardena says it works in all weather, rain or sunshine, and it is rated IPX5. A frost sensor pauses the mowing plan near freezing, and you can switch that on or off in the app.
