Husqvarna Automower® Aspire™ R4 robotic mower for small lawns
For a townhouse garden, a small family lawn or a front and back lawn joined by a narrow side passage, look at the Husqvarna Automower® Aspire™ R4. It is Husqvarna’s compact robotic mower, rated for lawns up to 400 m².
It runs inside a physical boundary wire, weighs 5,9 kg and is controlled from your phone through the Automower® Connect app. If you want a robotic mower for a modest lawn without features a small garden will never use, this is where to start.

What the Automower® Aspire™ R4 does well
Small body, made for tight spaces
At 55 cm long and 33 cm wide it is a lot smaller than the NERA models. Husqvarna optimised it for smaller lawns and narrow passages, and it has automatic passage handling plus Systematic Passage Mowing, which switches to systematic mowing in narrow passages to reduce turns and wheel tracks.
It reads the weather
A weather timer adjusts mowing time to how fast the grass is growing, which reduces wear on both the lawn and the mower. A frost guard sensor interrupts the schedule in frosty conditions to protect the lawn.
App and smart home control
Through the Automower® Connect app you get full control of the mower from your phone. It also links to Amazon Alexa and Google Home for voice control and status updates, and supports IFTTT routines. Software updates arrive over the air through the app.
Two lawns, one mower
If your front and back lawns are not connected by a passage the mower can drive through, the Secondary Area setting lets you set up the second lawn as its own area.
Easy to store and clean
The compact shape and the included Aspire™ hooks make it easy to hang up out of the way. The exterior and underneath can be washed with a garden hose.
Is it right for your lawn?
Lawn size is the first check. Husqvarna’s figure is 400 m², and we always advise buying a mower with capacity above your lawn size so it keeps up through the growing season. Its maximum active time is 9 h, against 24 h on the NERA models, which is another reason to leave headroom.
Then look at slope. The Automower® Aspire™ R4 manages 25% inside the lawn but only 10% at the boundary. If your lawn edges run along a bank, or the lawn itself is steep, it is the wrong machine.
Be clear about what it leaves out. There is no display, just a keypad and the app. Cutting height is set by hand between 20 and 45 mm. It has a PIN code, but no alarm, GeoFence or GPS theft tracking, and Husqvarna does not list a wire free option for this model.

Husqvarna rates it for lawns up to 400 m². We suggest choosing a mower whose capacity is comfortably above your lawn size, so the Automower® Aspire™ R4 is best on lawns well inside that figure.
Does the Automower® Aspire™ R4 need a boundary wire?
Yes. Husqvarna lists a physical boundary wire for this model. The loop wire and stakes are not included in the box, so speak to us about installation materials when you book the installation.
Can I control the Automower® Aspire™ R4 from my phone?
Yes. It connects over Bluetooth® and Wi-Fi to the Automower® Connect app, where you can manage and monitor it. It also works with Amazon Alexa, Google Home and IFTTT routines.
Will the Automower® Aspire™ R4 manage a sloped garden?
It handles slopes up to 25% inside the lawn and up to 10% along the boundary wire. Gardens with steeper banks are better suited to a larger Automower®.
Can I wash the Automower® Aspire™ R4 with a hose?
Husqvarna says the exterior and underneath can be washed with a garden hose, and the cover is removable for cleaning.
