If going round the lawn edges with a trimmer is the job you would most like to hand over, the Husqvarna Automower® 310E NERA is worth a close look: its EdgeCut function minimises the need to trim the lawn edges, and it handles lawns up to 1 000 m².

It is a good fit for a mid-sized family garden on fairly gentle ground. Out of the box it runs on a physical boundary wire, and you can also go wire free with virtual boundaries by adding Husqvarna’s EPOS Plug-in accessory.

Why choose the Automower® 310E NERA

Fewer edges to trim

EdgeCut is the headline feature on this model. Less trimming along beds and paving means less time with a petrol or battery trimmer after the mower has been out.

Set it up the way your garden works

Zone Control in the Automower® Connect app lets you create several work areas with different settings. You can also set temporary stay-out zones, for example around seasonal wildflowers or a part of the garden you are busy redoing. Profiles let you save different schedules and settings for different seasons or locations.

Cutting height from your phone

Height adjustment is electric and set in the app, from 20 to 55 mm. TargetHeight brings the grass down gradually from the maximum to the height you choose over a 10 day period, which Husqvarna says improves lawn quality. Spiral cutting kicks in automatically to even out patches where the grass has grown taller.

Mowing that adapts

The weather timer matches working time to how fast the grass grows. Automower® Smart Routines can park the mower during rain or frost. Narrow passages are sensed automatically, and Systematic Passage Mowing reduces turning in them to limit wheel tracks.

Security and updates

A PIN code, alarm and GeoFence protect the mower: if it is moved outside its area, the alarm sounds. Firmware updates come over the air through the app, and the mower links to Amazon Alexa and Google Home.

Is it right for your lawn?

Husqvarna rates the Automower® 310E NERA at 1 000 m². We recommend a mower with capacity above your actual lawn size, so for lawns close to 1 000 m², or larger, look at the Husqvarna Automower® 320 NERA, rated for 2 200 m².

Slope is the other limit. This model manages 30% inside the lawn and 20% along the boundary. For bumpy, sloping lawns, the Automower® 320 NERA is rated for 50% inside the lawn and has a non-fixed front axis built for rough terrain.

Husqvarna lists no object detection on this model. Of the NERA models we sell, the Automower® 430X NERA and Automower® 450X NERA have it. If your lawn is small and simple, under about 400 m², the Husqvarna Automower® Aspire™ R4 may be all you need.

What does EdgeCut do on the Husqvarna Automower® 310E NERA?

Husqvarna says EdgeCut minimises the need to trim the edges of your lawn, saving time and effort.

Can the Automower® 310E NERA work without a boundary wire?

Yes, with an extra accessory. It comes set up for a physical boundary wire, and wire free installation with virtual boundaries is available with the EPOS Plug-in. Husqvarna lists the EPOS Plug-in and EPOS Reference station as not included.

Does the boundary wire have to be buried?

No. Husqvarna’s Automower® FAQ says the wire can be laid on the ground using staples, or buried at a suggested depth of 3 to 10 cm. Loop wire and stakes are not included in the box with the Automower® 310E NERA.

How steep a lawn can the Automower® 310E NERA handle?

Husqvarna rates it for slopes up to 30% inside the lawn and 20% along the boundary. For steeper or rougher ground the Automower® 320 NERA is rated for 50% inside the lawn.

How long does the Automower® 310E NERA mow before it charges?

Typically 50 minutes on a charge, then about 40 minutes back on the charging station, which it returns to on its own. It can be active for up to 24 h a day.
